The Night Has Eyes
James Mason stars in this gothic tale of dangerous desire set on the Yorkshire Moors.
Director: Leslie Arliss
Overview
Schoolteachers Marian and Doris are on the trail of her missing friend Evelyn when they take refuge in the remote Yorkshire cottage of reclusive pianist Stephen Deremid. Despite being made to feel unwelcome, Doris is unable to contain her attraction to the brooding and damaged Deremid, but Marion suspects he may have been involved in her friend’s disappearance.
Boasting a wonderful central performance from James Mason as the troubled veteran of the Spanish Civil War, some atmospheric photography by Gunther Krampf, and director Leslie Arliss’ adept handling of numerous twists and turns, The Night Has Eyes is a superior gothic chiller.
