Overview
Ealing’s film of a day in the life of London Airport (aka Heathrow) follows the love intrigues and misadventures of various characters, from pilots to passengers. Basil Deardon directs the film, which was produced in full co-operation with the Ministry of Transport and BOAC, with location work filmed in London Airport (the Heathrow moniker wasn’t adopted until 1966) and a recreation of the terminal at Ealing Studios.
The film’s rich Eastmancolour photography, glorifying Heathrow in its early days, makes for a fascinating time-capsule from a gentler era of aviation. All previous home video releases of the film were based on the shortened US cut, but this new restoration by BFI and Studiocanal reinstates ten minutes of footage originally seen UK release prints.
