                    Overview

On the eve of taking her vows, novice nun Anna is ordered by the Mother Superior to explore her family history before submitting to the church. But Anna’s only living relative seems to be the free-living, hard-drinking Wanda. The unlikely pair embark on a journey to lift the shroud from their family’s dark past and confront a devastating truth.

Pawel Pawlikowski’s stunningly shot exploration of faith and history won the Best Film award at the 2013 BFI London Film Festival. Filmed in incandescent black-and-white, with each frame exquisitely composed, UK-based director Pawel Pawlikowski’s (My Summer of Love, Last Resort) new film is an elegy for his homeland and an intimate, poetic exploration of the limits of faith
