Healthy bodies and lively minds: learn how Liverpool Boys’ Association clubs kept unemployed lads on the straight and narrow
Overview
Against a backdrop of rising juvenile unemployment and its associated ills, Liverpool’s United Voluntary Organisation step up their appeal for funds for the Liverpool Boys’ Association clubs, whose aim was to keep local lads on the straight and narrow. This vibrant depiction of the clubs’ myriad activities was Liverpool University Film Unit’s generous contribution to the cause.
This well-timed production captures visits to the Boys’ Club by famous Liverpudlian Frankie Vaughan and the Duke of Edinburgh. The clubs were part of a wider national youth movement that catered for boys between the ages of 14 and 18.
