Overview

Three young men with disabilities (Grant Rosenmeyer, Hayden Szeto, and Ravi Patel) flee their overbearing parents on a road trip to a brothel in Montreal catering to people with special needs. Sam (Gabourey Sidibe), a traveling nurse, drives the three guys across the border as they go on this trip to lose their virginity and embrace their independence.

Richard Wong's sweet and charming comedy is a remake of 2001 Belgian film Hasta la Vista - itself based on the BBC documentary about Leeds resident Asta Philpot - and the story's multiple reversioning proves it's one that never tires in the retelling (there was also a Netherlands production in 2016). Despite using able-bodied actors in the lead roles Wong's film is a well-judged celebration of acceptance and diversity that does justice to a heart-warming story.
