Films about Children

Childhood has been an obsession for filmmakers since the birth of cinema.
While some of these films are suitable for young audiences, these are films about, rather than for, children. Many of the titles are taken from the features discovered in Mark Cousins’ wonderful A Story of Children and Film, with hard-to-see titles from around the world, including Crows, about a neglected girl who kidnaps another girl and acts as her surrogate mother, and charming Iranian fable The Boot. More recent works include the multi award-winning Beasts of the Southern Wild, for which Quvenzhané Wallis became the youngest ever nominee for the best actress award, the moving tale from the Dardenne brothers, The Kid with a Bike, and The First Grader, the inspiring true story of a Kenyan man who returned to school aged 84.
