Seaside fun and playing on the beach 1937
Join these friends as they swim, sunbathe and picnic on the shingles at Cooden Beach - in all the glamour of woolen swimwear and bathing caps
From the collection of:

Overview
This short film from Lance House shows a group of his friends enjoying a day on the shingle beach at Cooden. We see the women pulling on rubber bathing caps and posing in their swimwear before dashing into the sea for a splash and a swim. A male companion, in woollen swimming trunks, joins them in the water. We later see the party sunbathing by their beach picnic. The camera, presumably operated by Lance, pans across the group before going for a close-up of his friend's bare foot.
Solicitor, Lancelot House, filmed scenes of his family and friends, in Kent and on travels in Europe, dating from the mid 1930s and late 1940s. The full collection of films made by Lance House are dispersed across a number of other UK film archives including Screen Archive South East, the British Film Institute, the Imperial War Museum, the East Anglian Film Archive and the South West Film Archive. Those films held at Screen Archive South East include scenes of a friend's military wedding, a sports day at his son's prep school, and family and friends taking part in leisure activities in and around Sussex and the South East.
