Sunday School Outings to Littlehampton
Gladstone Moore's delightful film features gleeful day trippers - both young and old - on their annual Sunday School outings to Littlehampton

Overview
This charming, joyous film starts in the late 1940s and ends in 1957. We see members of the Three Bridges Free Church waiting for their transport to Littlehampton. On arrival children and adults spend the day swimming, paddling and sitting in deckchairs eating sandwiches and ice cream. We get a glimpse of the Butlins Park fun fair in the distance. Children enjoy riding pedalos, fairground rides and donkeys - and also exploring the beach and watching the Punch & Judy show.
Gladstone E. Moore lived in Crawley from 1934 to 1969. He was a fellow of the Incorporated Society of Auctioneers and Landed Property as well as being a Baptist Minister, Deacon and Superintendent for several Churches in the Crawley district. He documented many local events in Crawley and Three Bridges; from weddings to Sunday School outings like the trips to Littlehampton seen in this film. Mr Moore also filmed scenes showing the redevelopment and expansion of central Crawley into a New Town. These show the building of the new shopping centre, new housing and industrial estates, and even a visit to Crawley by HRH Princess Elizabeth for an official opening ceremony.
