Village Ventures - Volunteers
Puddletown's Women's Institute provide volunteers
In partnership with:

Overview
Puddletown’s Women’s Institute (WI) is an important part of the rural community and provides volunteers for a range of projects. In this film Village Ventures their role is celebrated. Dorset has no cities and rural communities depend on a network of volunteers to carry out projects like running a playgroup, a craft fair or providing a network to do good in the community.
The Women's Institute or WI was formed in 1915 to revitalise rural communities and women took on the role of producing food during the First World War. The organisation has grown and is now the largest voluntary women's organisation in the UK. The WI celebrated its centenary in 2015. Situated beside the watermeadows of the River Frome bisected by the River Piddle the town once called Piddletown changes its name to Puddletown for reasons of social decorum. The town is the inspiration for Weatherbury, the fictional settlement in Thomas Hardy’s novel Far from the Madding Crowd.
