Overview

TV reporter Judi Spiers is in Walkhampton to the west of Dartmoor in Devon for a celebration of country crafts. The show’s organiser is a resident wheelwright and is filmed in an old water-powered workshop explaining about a craft he believes is dying out. The village square, the shop, and a leat and water wheel are prominent.

The village lies on the Black Brook, a tributary of the River Walkham and the parish includes Meavy and Sheepstor. The Walkhampton Inn dates from the 17th century and the Church of St Mary the Virgin, which until 1985 had no dedication, is Grade I listed. Evidence of tin mining in the area is thought to date back to medieval times.
