Overview
TV reporter Clive Gunnell takes a look at Buckland-in-the-Moor. This film shows the village and its chocolate box appeal, from its cottages with thatched roofs to its church with the words my dear mother etched on the clock dial instead of numerals. Gunnell interviews a resident Mrs Christian who describes life in the village and the constant stream of visitors.
St Peter's Church in Buckland overlooks the Webburn Valley and was built in the 12th century. The ancient manor of Buckland appears in the Domesday Book in 1086, a first survey of the land. The manor and lands have belonged to many estates including the Bishop of Crediton in the 11th century. It became independent of the church and was sold to the families of Raphe Woodleigh 1578-1614 and the Bastard family who from 1614 owned the area for over 300 years.
