Family life in colonial India – amateur footage of a little girl with her British parents and the children of other colonial families

Amateur film 1940 2 mins Silent

Overview

The little girl, Georgina, who is the main focus of this film, was born in Shanghai in 1939. Her family fled Shanghai for India soon afterwards, living first in Calcutta, then in Simla. Her father worked for the Mercantile Bank of India. This footage may have been filmed in Simla, in snowy and sunny seasons. Georgina later gave her family films to the BFI National Archive.
