Overview
On a small farm in Tudweiliog, within sight of the mountain ‘Yr Eifl’, are cattle grazing the cliffs, hens pecking about, ducks with their own pond and work horses helping to bring in the hay. Evan Owen Jones of Abercynon, who attended the Slade School of Art in London and became an art teacher, travelled up north to this village on the Lleyn peninsula, where his parents were brought up, to record a way of life that he may have realised was on the cusp of passing.
Evan Owen Jones (1905-88) was born and brought up in Prospect House, North Street, Abercynon. He taught art at Aberpennar Grammar School, Pontllanfraith High School and Llandrindod College. He passed his last years at Tan y Bryn, Stad St Tudwal, Mynytho, Gwynedd. The church seen is St Cwyfan’s, Tudweiliog, perhaps the location of his parents’ marriage. His father John was brought up at Ty’n Rhos, his mother Ann at Ty Rhent.
