Dainty Dot Shop
Was this where Nora Batty bought her stockings? A silent cinema ad for a Holmfirth women's clothes shop
Overview
Blimey - the Dainty Dot shop in Holmfirth must be good. These two women are talking about their frock and lingerie purchases all the way down in Marylebone, London. Holmfirth is well known as the filming location of Last of the Summer Wine (perhaps this is where a younger Nora Batty bought her infamous wrinkly stockings?) but this was filmed over 150 miles away.
Generic cinema ads were produced by specialised advertising agencies, who would then insert appropriate intertitles for shops local to the cinemas they represented. They were silent and could be played before the start of the main programme.
