Overview

Sporting activities and interests in Northern Ireland are nothing if not eclectic. The landscape is a versatile venue for a dizzying breadth of local pastimes and international events. Get an adrenaline rush from the razor sharp reflexes of hurlers and international rally drivers. Find sport in solitary endeavours like landscape painting. Then delve into the caves of Fermanagh amongst the stalactites and savour the thrills of climbing sheer cliff faces in the Mournes.

This film is amongst a wealth of material generated by the Northern Ireland Tourist Board. This government department had their own staff that documented the region through stills and moving images capturing various facets of life in Northern Ireland. The department was particularly busy in the mid-1950s to late 1960s, creating films that aimed to sell Northern Ireland as a holiday destination.
