Fashion Gazette
Damsel’s delight: dainty creations from Paris are here to inspire you in this amusing 1920s cinemagazine.
Overview
Fashion was a popular topic for cinemagazines in the 1920s, showing off the latest looks for female cinemagoers – though few could afford them. This piece has the added bonus of some very funny intertitles. Hat fetishists will be drawn to the “Flying Pastry”, a “magnificent eruption” inspired by a squashed cream bun. And you’ll be relieved by the latest Parisian decree that “waists will be larger this year” – a notion not seen in the pages of Vogue in living memory. A final dramatic reveal of corset and knickers - “the reason why men leave home” - is unusually provocative.
