Track Testing
Testing times as we make a journey on board British Rail's High Speed Track Recording Coach.
Overview
Testing times for British Rail in this demonstration of the High Speed Track Recording Coach. Adapted from an ordinary passenger carriage, it can measure many track parameters, including rail top, cant gradient, twist, level and alignment at speeds of 125 mph. The Track Recording Coach, or TRC as it became known, was so successful that it is still in operation with Network Rail today. With eyes on the future, this film also examines the rail research team's capability for ultrasonic rail flaw detection.
