Overview

Man (dressed as schoolgirl) and dog lead the carnival procession on this dry Saturday in Ystalyfera, a mining village accustomed to above average rainfall. A brass or silver band follows, and other bands with a variety of instruments. There is a fairy queen, a carnival queen, a Gandhi, a chimney sweep and a number of American Indians. This special day also includes a baby show at which mothers, two men and a nun are seen holding babies, some secured in shawls.
