Carnival day dawns dry in Ystalyfera, a mining village renowned for its higher than average rainfall, and bands of all description take to the streets along with ‘Gandhi’.
Man (dressed as schoolgirl) and dog lead the carnival procession on this dry Saturday in Ystalyfera, a mining village accustomed to above average rainfall. A brass or silver band follows, and other bands with a variety of instruments. There is a fairy queen, a carnival queen, a Gandhi, a chimney sweep and a number of American Indians. This special day also includes a baby show at which mothers, two men and a nun are seen holding babies, some secured in shawls.
