        Get Cracking

Bad eggs and cracking jokes put a frown on Hitler's face in this advert for National Savings

Public Information Filler 1944 1 mins

        Overview

This WWII propaganda short encourages audiences to leave Hitler with egg on his face - by buying National Savings Stamps. Wartime expenditure made the government increasingly reliant on the scheme that was collecting up to £5,000,000 a week in 1943. Posters often played more to patriotism and the future of the next generation, but this cinema short goes the humour route with exploding eggs and a frowning Fuhrer.

This government film is a public record, preserved and presented by the BFI National Archive on behalf of The National Archives, home to more than 1,000 years of British history.
