This is farming made simple - a special educational guide to life on a farm for the benefit of city kids
This rather charming film was made to show school children, most probably in the inner cities, life down on the farm during the winter months. As an educational film, the brief would have been to illustrate that farming is a year round existence and requires hands on hard work to keep livestock, harvest the beet, feed the land and sow the spuds. Filmmaker, Hugh Brandon-Cox lived in Cambridgeshire and was said to have filmed on a nearby farm.
As an artist, explorer and writer, High Brandon-Cox spent much of his life in East Anglia, where he was inspired by the "wide skies". Whilst living in Cambridge working as a nature correspondent for a national magazine, he bought a 16mm cine camera and developed a talent for making films about nature and the environment. The commission for this film for the Educational Foundation for the Visual Arts followed on adding to his many successes and talents.
