In the end it may have only had seven pupils but with 136 years of educating children behind it the closure of the school at Spetchley in Worcestershire is met with great sadness.

Overview

July 1976 and its the last day of term at St Ann's school at Spetchley in Worcestershire. The usual excitement at the prospect of the long summer break is tinged with sadness: this is the last day in the school's history. St Ann's, which opened in 1840, will be no more and for the final seven pupils it's a fond farewell with an air of melancholy. The school's only teacher, Vincent Joy, talks to John Swallow of ATV Today about his feelings and his hopes for the village children.
