Overview

This fascinating compilation of films shows Jubilee celebrations in Hersham, Oatlands and Walton-on-Thames. There are street parties for the children and dancing for their mothers. We also see a variety of novelty races and acrobatic displays in local parks and the local firemen on parade in front of their engines. We even get a quick glimpse of the Capitol Cinema where these films were originally shown as well as various boxing tournaments.

Clifford Spain, who produced this and many other films currently held in the Screen Archive South East's collection, was the manager of the Capitol Cinema in Walton on Thames. He filmed various community events in the district which he thought would be of interest to the patrons of his cinema. There was, of course, the added benefit that many audience members who attended events like the Jubilee festivities seen here, would have recognised themselves for the first time on the big screen of the Capitol Cinema.
