Overview
Local headmaster, A. C. Barnden, filmed the entire week of celebrations and festivities that marked the Coronation of Elizabeth II. Starting at the end of May we see Lloyds bank and various Burgess Hill shops decked out in bunting prior to an outdoor Thanksgiving Service. A variety of novelty races are followed by a torch-lit parade and bonfire. We then see Coronation mugs handed out to children, more games and the start of the Carnival. Watch out for the Everest themed float.
The filmmaker, Mr A. C. Barnden, was Headmaster at the London Road School in Burgess Hill. The school was demolished in May 1989.
