Lawless Heart

A death in an Essex seaside town brings together old friends, lovers and family in this BIFA-winning drama starring Bill Nighy and Tom Hollander.

The death of a local restaurant owner throws a grenade into the lives of three men who knew him – his brother-in-law, his lover and his old friend. Dan (Bill Nighy) is tempted by an extramarital affair with an attractive guest at the funeral, while grieving Nick (Tom Hollander) quickly comes to regret offering a room to Tim (Douglas Henshall), who has arrived in the village after years away.

Tom Hunsinger and Neil Hunter's 2001 comedy-drama tells the story from their three different, interconnected perspectives in a really touching and cleverly written way - their screenplay alone picked up awards at BIFA and Locarno. The New York Film Critics group voted it one of their favourite films of the year.
