Story of a Love Affair

Michelangelo Antonioni's debut feature is a noirish thriller following a jealous industrialist who hires a private eye to investigate his wife.

A rich industrialist, provoked by groundless jealousy, hires a detective to investigate the past of the young woman Paola (Lucia Bosè) he impulsively married several years earlier: the move has tragic consequences. While the narrative is more focused than in his later work, this is undoubtedly an Antonioni film, with striking compositions, an implacable sense of place and a nagging atmosphere of confused anxiety.
