Tender fly-on-the-wall documentary depicting the daily lives of three Japanese 'onnabe' who work as hosts in a Tokyo nightclub.
Director: Kim Longinotto and Jano Williams
Overview
A verité-style, fly-on-the-wall documentary that follows the daily goings on of three Japanese ‘onnabe’ – people who are assigned female gender at birth but engage in masculine self-representation – who work as hosts in a Tokyo nightclub.
Director’s Kim Longinotto and Jano Williams observational and intimate approach takes the viewer into their world and allows the three onnabe to express their identity with a tender candour not often captured on film.
