A wealthy lady realises the folly of her ways when she encounters the Left Book Club in this comedy of errors.
Overview
A well-to-do lady driving to the Blue Book Club in Prigswell mistakenly finds herself at Digswell Park, Welwyn, with members of the Left Book Club at their Summer School. After initial resistance to the ideas she hears, her choice of bedtime reading is “The Position of Women in the USSR” by GN Serebrennikov, which convinces her to rethink her principles.
The LBC Summer School did indeed take place at Digswell Park in Hertfordshire in 1937, and members of the left-wing Film and Photograph League spotted their opportunity to make a film. Publisher Victor Gollancz also appears in the film – he had published an edition of “The Position of Women in the USSR” in 1937.
