Living in the sand dunes just outside the city of Timbuktu, a cattle herder and his wife find their peaceful existence disturbed by forces attempting to dictate their lifestyle.

Nominated for the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Feature, Abderrahmane Sissako creates a beautiful film that explores the ways in which religion can be twisted into something perverse and destructive, as well as how it can be beautiful. Timbuktu is a graceful yet powerful rallying cry against extremism.
