Akira Kurosawa's Dreams
In this visually spectacular late masterwork, late Akira Kurosawa presents a collection of eight vividly coloured dreams.
Director: Akira Kurosawa
Overview
In this visually spectacular late masterwork, late Akira Kurosawa presents a collection of eight vividly coloured dreams.
The initial one, The Sun in the Rain, is the fruit of Kurosawa's childhood memories of dreaming of a fox’s wedding in a magical forest as a child. The motif for the Garden of Eden continues in Peach Garden. The artful effects, bestowed by the ardent admirer of the Japanese maestro, George Lucas, dominate the Ravens, in which the art connoisseur finds himself in the paintings of Van Gogh (played impressively by another distinguished follower of Kurosawa - Martin Scorsese himself). In the idyllic latest novella, The Watermill Village, the centenarian (played by Chishu Ryu, a veteran of the films of another Japanese magician, Yasujiro Ozu), claims that "humans have now forgotten that they are part of nature." Dreams will enchant you and fascinate you with its beauty and wisdom - magic that only great directors are capable of.
