Overview

If a picture can speak a thousand words, then clever graphic design paired with orchestrated movement can write a whole book. Richard Taylor learnt about bringing modernism to commercial animation while working with the German art director Peter Sachs at the innovative Larkins Studio. This short, dialogue free ad for Shell petrol is typical of his experimental drive, harnessed by the yoke of sponsorship. He would go on to create the iconic ‘Charlie Says’ series.
