The Kilties
Highlanders on the march
Overview
Bearskinned Highlanders leave their barracks in this example of what was a popular genre in the early film era. The date is thought to be 1900, which would mean the Boer War was still very much in progress, but we can't be sure if these troops are about to head for South Africa - or perhaps recently returned. It's certainly a confident spectacle all the same - and the audience turned out to watch is presumably a lot bigger than the handful we see in this relatively tight shot.
The barracks themselves are so far unidentified - but there's perhaps enough of a view of the gates and buildings here that someone with local knowledge might recognise them, if they're still standing today.
