This early travelogue is potentially the work of Jasper Redfern.
Jasper Redfern, who may have shot this travelogue, travelled extensively throughout North Africa in 1898, bringing home plenty of footage. Redfern was an early speculator in all things cinematic, setting up one of the first permanent cinemas in Sheffield. His work as a cameraman is less well known, hence the difficulty confirming this as his work. Nevertheless, the exotic locale, the smiling faces, the novelty of movement, all suggest that this film was made by a canny operator with an eye on selling tickets.
