Panorama of the Paris Exhibition No. 3
An unusual view of Paris, shot from a boat travelling down the Seine. You can even see the Eiffel tower - almost!
Overview
Not quite a "tour du monde", but here's a glimpse of the foreign pavilions at Paris' Exposition Universelle in 1900, as we travel on a boat down the Seine, hugging the bank close to the Eiffel Tower. The famous tower is only out of sight for a moment in this gorgeous film, which represents a rare trip abroad for Cecil Hepworth's company. Hepworth coined the term "panoraming" for this technique of filming a view from a moving boat, which he used mostly closer to his studio at Walton-on-Thames.
There were many exhibits at the Exposition that would have interested Hepworth - not least the Palace of Electricity and some very early experiments with sound film.
