Canons Park and Stanmore

A snapshot of Harrow's cultural heritage, particularly as depicted through Canons Park of Stanmore and the incredible names attached to it.

An opening shot of the hullabaloo of suburban Harrow and the following image of scenic fields is accompanied by a voice-over lamenting the transition away from Harrow of ages past. More scenery attributes Harrow to the inspiration of poet John Milton. The story of George Friderich Handel’s occupation of a nearby estate is detailed, unpacking a myth behind the origins of his great “Harmonious Blacksmith,” accompanied by recreated shots of the estate and its smithy.

This film is from the collection of Headstone Manor Museum, a member of the London's Screen Archives Network.
