Overview
The opening shot shows the exterior of the works at Attleborough, next to the Norwich to Cambridge Railway. An interior shot of part of the refining process where the fermented product is filtered is followed by the chief chemist, Mr. Reilly, taking a sample from one of the large concrete vats. Mr. Reilly explains the contents of the sample and also that Gaymers have 101 concrete vats varying in size from 20,000 gallons to 50,000 gallons.
1903 was a disastrous year for Britain’s apple harvest as the entire crop failed. William Gaymer travelled to Canada and purchased sufficient apples for a year’s production and shipped them home. The Attleborough factory ceased production in 1995, and the Gaymers brand, including a major production facility in Somerset and a distribution warehouse in Bristol, is now owned by C&C Group.
