Imagination
An art gallery provides some respite from the world outside
Overview
Jemima Hughes’ paper-cut stop-frame animation is a love letter to the power of the imagination. Finding the outside world dull and cold, our protagonist and narrator visits an exhibition in a local art gallery. She rolls through the hall in her pink wheelchair, her imagination fuelled by the Matisse-esque paintings. Transformed by the confrontation, she returns to the street leaving a trail of colour and warmth behind her.
Hughes collaborated with animator Astrid Goldsmith and composer Mike Roberts to realise the film, which was produced by Screen South for Ignition Random Acts, a series of films celebrating England’s most exciting 16 - 24 year-old artists and filmmakers in partnership with Arts Council England and Channel 4.
