Overview
We start with the arrival of the RMV Scillonian at St Mary's, the largest island in the archipelago. Views of quaint cottages and quiet streets in the town are followed by a tour of the island’s peaceful beaches. At Hugh Town quay we see holidaymakers board a small boat for a trip around the islands. A woman poses for the camera and a man splashes about in a rockpool. On a different day we see puffins on the water as well as more views of the islands. A glorious sunset ends the film.
Evelyn Phillip Cardew was an amateur film maker and a member of the Canterbury Cine Society during the 1930s. He was also the Chief Engineer for Kent, Surrey and Sussex. He worked at Canterbury Electricity Works and a number of his films feature this facility. He also made a number of family and holiday films, among them this film about a trip to the Isles of Scilly.
