Overview

It's rare for a feature film to be shot in the East Midlands and the crowds are out in force to see actor turned director David Hemmings shoot 'Running Scared' on the streets of Daventry. Reporter Peter Plant catches up with star Robert Powell, then fresh from television success of the BBC's Doomwatch, and his co-star Gayle Hunnicutt. He also talks to Hemmings himself who is making his directorial debut with a gloomy sounding tale of suicide and a dead dog.

Gayle Hunnicutt and David Hemmings were married at the time. The completed film had a very limited theatrical release and then vanished virtually without a trace. At a special fortieth anniversary screening of 'Running Scared' at Braunston in Northamptonshire, using a print sourced from the USA, Gayle Hunnicutt, who was guest of honour, admitted that she had never actually seen the full film before.
