The Nile
Silent amateur film of the lower reaches of the Nile in Uganda from 1932.
Overview
Silent amateur film of the lower reaches of the Nile in Uganda from 1932. The film is shot in two parts. Firstly, a boat journey along the Nile in Uganda, with scenes of wildlife as well as rapids and waterfalls (The Murchison Falls, The Mobuku River Moon Mountain and The Buamba Falls Moon Mountain). The film also documents a flight over the Moon Mountains; this sequence shows the crew’s preparations and shots of many snow-covered peaks.
Moon Mountains or Mountains of the Moon is a term referring to a mountain range in East Africa, most notably the Rwenzori Mountains of Uganda. Diogenes, a 1st century merchant, claimed that he had discovered the source of the Nile after travelling inland from Rhapta for 25 days. Diogenes claimed that the Nile originated from a series of mountains and lakes in East Africa. The local population called these mountains the Mountains of the Moon on account of their snow-covered peaks.
