Who Voted for This? - The Nationalisation of Electricity

“Blimey, now we’ve got a ruddy power cut!” This Tory campaigning film cuts straight to the thrust.

Campaigning film 1948 3 mins

Overview

This is one of a series of Conservative Party films denouncing the nationalisation policy of the Labour government. In this film two grumpy men, Bert and Joe, complain about the nationalisation of electricity, concluding “Sack the Socialists! And set the people free.” The electricity industry was nationalised in 1948 with the establishment of 14 regional electricity boards.
