Wenvoe and District Agricultural and Flower Show - September 8th

Overview
Capt. H C R Homfray, as President of the South Wales and Monmouthshire Agriculture and Horse Shows Association (and Master of the Glamorgan Hunt) hosts a tea party at his home - Penllyn Castle, Cowbridge - for the ladies of the area who ensured that the Royal Bath & West Show, held in Cardiff in 1948, ran smoothly. There is also a visit – probably by members of the Association – to view the Craven Llewelyn herd of pedigree Ayrshire cows at Cefn Cethin, Fairfach, Llandeilo.
The shows were all shot by founder member and Hon. Cinematographer of the SWMAHSA, Reginald George Iles – his wife is present at the tea party. William Craven Llewelyn had a finger in many pies as a colliery owner, companies director, agriculturalist and a forestry specialist. Although unsuccessful as a Liberal parliamentary candidate, he was appointed High Sheriff of Brecknockshire and President of the Swansea Town Association Football Club. His fellow agriculturalist, H C R Homfray, surfaced in the public eye in 2006 when a silver salver presented to him on his marriage by “the indoor servants and workmen of Penllyn Castle Estate" went on sale on-line for £355.
