Welch Regimental Mascot: Billy the Goat
Cardiff’s Ernest Gough films blooming roses and bandstands, donkey riding and rowing, an unmoveable lawn-mower and a regimental goat.

Overview
The clothes worn by members of Cardiff’s Gough family are redolent of the period - 1930s - although a particular fur trimmed coat, worn by a young woman with spectacles, suggests the 1960s! The family are seen in a park bursting with roses in bloom, with boating lake, glasshouses and bandstands. The children ride the park’s donkeys but are unable to budge the family lawn-mower, and the regimental goat at Maindy Barracks is not in the mood for walking.
Young Peter Gough and his older sister Sybil were the children of Ernest Gough, proprietor of ‘Maindy Garage’ in Cardiff and a fleet of tour buses, and Beatrice V Gough, a founder member (together with her singing teacher, Idloes Owen, and others) of The Welsh National Opera Company in 1943, initially an amateur company. In her 20s, Beatrice sang with the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company both in the chorus and as a soloist. Upon her marriage, she relinquished her professional career but continued performing in the many amateur companies in the Cynon Valley and Cardiff. Maindy Barracks was home to The Welch Regiment and is now home to the 3rd Batt. The Royal Welsh (Royal Regiment of Wales).
