War Actualities
Collection of news films from the Western Front, mostly taken during the summer of 1916
Overview
This collection of WWI news films offers an interesting panorama of the conflict in 1916, and may have come from a stock-shot library, as the images are clearly from different films but related by subject. Some, such as that of King George V at a Casualty Clearing Station at Remy on 14 August, are from the official film of his visit by the British Topical Committee for War Films. There are also shots from the documentary The Battle of the Somme (1916). A particularly interesting shot, taken from parapet height, shows troops clambering out of trenches and advancing, covered by a smokescreen created by flares.
