Overview
This fascinating film about industrialisation of rural India is a study in contrasts. It seems to be incomplete; given its tonal shifts, and that each sequence has a different commentator, it's not clear whether it's a single film or a compilation from more than one source. Either way, its double viewpoint - alternating lyrical pastoral sections with brisk, sharply edited industrial ones - echoes the work of the British documentary movement of the 1930s and 40s.
