Overview

This colourful film beautifully evokes the sense of excitement that precipitates the arrival of the royal guest, from the display of military pageantry to the sea of expectant faces that line the streets. And then the moment arrives. A cavalcade of sleek black cars motor through the streets bearing the royal party.

Although she would popularly be remembered as The Queen Mother, Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon - as wife of King George VI - was from 1936 to 1952 the Queen consort. As the 1940s came to a close and George's health failed, she found herself having to take on a number of his official engagements. This material is courtesy of Waddells Media Ltd.
