        Overview

The Devon County Agricultural Association (DCAA) formed in 1872 and holds an annual event at Westpoint Arena in Clyst St Mary near Exeter. In the main ring is a parade of floats with farm equipment through the ages including a combine harvester. Historical figures from the Agrarian and Industrial Revolutions are depicted but also the Beatles.

The precursor to the combine harvester is the reaper introduced by Scottish inventor, Patrick Bell in 1826. Hiram Moore invented the combine in the United States in 1834 and it was pulled along by horse, mule or ox. In 1882 in Australia the Sunshine Harvester by Hugh Mackay became the first commercial combine harvester. The DCAA supports Farm Wise Devon and other award schemes and bursaries aimed at getting children and young people involved with the sources of food and farming. Clyst St Mary is situated between Exmouth, Sidmouth and Exeter. Clyst St Mary is home to the West of England Showground, Crealy Adventure Park and the Cat and Fiddle Training Ground for Exeter City Football Club.
