Overview

Foresters gather at North Bovey on the edge of Dartmoor to prove their speed and skill at mechanised tree felling in the annual British Foresters Championships. Armed with checked shirt, chainsaw and beard foresters are more than just a lumberjack. A lumberjack was the initial harvester of a tree working in the logging industry in the US or Canada and using hand tools. A forester manages the forest from timber harvesting to ecological preservation and protection.

Today's forests are managed sustainably and the scientific value of preserving the world's forests as the lungs of the world is widely recognised. The aim is for a sustainable future. Foresters and loggers are different in that respect. Today the British Forestry, Woodland and Arboricultural Exhibition is held annually and hosts more modern equivalents of the competition for example the European Chainsaw Carving Championships, risk assessments first please!
