Overview
When best friends Anita, Kemi and Emma cross paths with new girl and bully-magnet, Sylvia, they do not make her life any easier. Lies and gossip spin like webs and stick faster than a witch's curse. Driven by their own insecurities and hardships the trio commit to making Sylvia's life a living hell. After all, it is easy to kick someone who is already down. Just pray that someone doesn't learn to stand. Pray even harder that they don't realize their own power.
Tiptoeing the very fine line between comedy and horror Sylvia is a devilish dive into the 90s and the lives of a group of particularly nasty mean girls as they juggle puberty, heartbreak and superstition. At a time teetering on the cusp of the social media revolution this short offers a uniquely nostalgic glimpse into the world these inner-city kids hail from. Screened as part of BFI London Film Festival 2024 Shorts programme Sleepless Nights.
