Stourport on Severn's greatest attraction is the river, but danger lies in its hidden currents and eddies. To be safe river users must learn to swim, which is why head-teacher of the local secondary modern, Edwin Jones, decided to launch a fund raising appeal to build a swimming pool. With everything from jumble sales to celebrity endorsements from Noele Gordon, the appeal fund climbs, but will it be enough? His secret weapon could well be getting the boys to do the digging!
