Sports - Maharajah - Tazia

Rural fairs, wildlife, a military sporting contest and a visit by a Maharajah - plus a lively monkey

Amateur film 1932 14 mins Silent

Overview

An inquisitive monkey narrates the start of this diverse amateur film. The film's contents range from the quirky - a monkey on a horse! - to scenes of a bustling rural fair, as well as displays of horsemanship, including showjumping, and dance. The Maharajah is in attendance and we witness a parade of stunning tazias at the Islamic Festival of Muharram. The final scene with the dancer on a roof is delightful

The film was shot by Sir Conrad Corfield, personal assistant to several Viceroys of India, and document some of his extensive travels.
